On this day in football history

1931 Scotland lost their first international against Italy 3-0 in Rome.
1933 In the first meeting between the two countries England beat Switzerland 4-0 in Berne. The two inside-forwards Bastin and Richardson scored two apiece.
1942 Death of John Goodall at the age of 78. Probably the first of the great professional centre-forwards he made his name at Preston North End and was a member of the side which won the FA Cup and the League Championship in 1888-89. In 1890 he moved to Derby County and was in their side when they were beaten 3-0 by Nottingham Forest in the 1898 Cup Final. He led the England forwards in 14 internationals between 1888 and 1898. Had a very brief spell with Plymouth Argyle and later became player-manager at Watford. Ended his career with Mardy in the Second Division of the Southern League in 1913.
1956 Nat Lofthouse (Bolton Wanderers) while substituting for the injured Tommy Taylor in England's international against Finland in Helsinki, scored the two goals which enabled him to pass Steve Bloomer's record of 28 goals (24 matches) for England. He finished his career with 30 goals in 32 internationals. Tom Finney also scored 30 goals (76 internationals) but both records were subsequently surpassed.
1964 In a match in Copenhagen played to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Danish FA Scandinavia were beaten 4-2 by a Rest Of Europe side which includes several British players; Wilson and Bobby Charlton of England and Hamilton, Baxter and Law of Scotland.
1967 Tottenham Hotspur beat Chelsea 2-1 in the FA Cup Final at Wembley.
1987 Dundee United draw the first leg of the UEFA Cup Final with IFK Gothenburg 1-1.
1989 Liverpool beat Merseyside rivals Everton in the FA Cup Final, with Ian Rush scoring two goals in extra time to give them a 3-2 victory.
1992 Barcelona win the European Cup for the first time beating Sampdoria 1-0 in extra time at Wembley.
1998 Real Madrid win the European Cup Final 1-0 against Juventus.
2000 Chelsea win the last FA Cup Final to be played at Wembley Stadium 1-0 against Aston Villa.
